Funeral Arrangements

Families wishing to organize the funeral of a loved one whose death has been reported to the court do not need to wait for the Coronial investigation to be completed before beginning to make their arrangements. They can contact their funeral director at any time who will in turn liaise with the Court in providing information about when the body of the person is likely to be released for burial.

As indicated earlier, once all post mortem examinations/autopsies are complete the coroner will authorize the release of the body by signing a warrant for burial. Families can use any funeral home of their choice when making funeral arrangements and are not obliged to use the funeral where the Coroner ordered the body to be kept pending investigation.
